Quex News - Newsletter of the Sacred Heart Church

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION The workers in the vineyard in the Gospel today seem unreasonable and their behaviour slightly surreal. The owner of the vineyard in the Isaiah reading is quite reasonable – the grapes were sour, so he ceased production and levelled the site. The meaning is clear: he had done the work and the vineyard had let him down, just like God's people had let him down.
In the Gospel, is the tenants who are the problem, not the grapes. They mistreat the owner's representatives and murder his son on the improbable basis that they will becomes the heirs.
We have been given God's vineyard, the vineyard of the Church, to work in, despite having no legal claim on it. Everything is from God's generosity and given to us on trust. Therefore we will be judged on how we receive his servants.
